Biography
Megan Chakmakian is a passionate educator, avid reader, and lifelong athlete dedicated to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning. With nine years of teaching experience, Megan has had the privilege of guiding students through their educational journey in the vibrant community of East Harlem. She earned her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood/Childhood Education from SUNY Cortland, laying the groundwork for her career in teaching, and further refined her skills and expertise by pursuing her Master’s degree at Touro College. Currently teaching first grade in East Harlem, Megan creates a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment where every student is valued and supported. Megan’s expertise lies in teaching reading and phonics, incorporating the science of reading to ensure literacy success for all her students. In her private tutoring, Megan believes in the power of personalized learning, working closely with each student and their family to understand their unique needs and goals. Collaboration between home and school is essential for student success, and Megan collaborates closely with classroom teachers to align tutoring sessions with classroom curriculum. A passionate reader, Megan finds joy in exploring different genres and authors, alongside maintaining an active lifestyle as a lifelong athlete and hockey player.
